Warmaster Orc Army

Warmaster AKA "the one I never played"  has often been a discussed game between a friend and I/ He invested heavily, but never played (think we've all been there), whereas I fancied it on release, but being young and skint at that time, never really took it up.

SO, we decided to have a go...............or at least collect some armies.

Now, I'm not trawling ebay to look for overpriced blisters or GW stuff, and theres some lovely looking 3D printed stuff out there, but I needed to decide what to go for. Obviously, Chaos or Undead being my main armies meant first thoughts went to them, but I didn't really get bitten by what was there, plus the chaos stuff I did like was in France, and I have no intention of dicking around with Brexit charges and all that fun and games.

This led to "how about a different army for once? i.e. not one I have in 28mm" when I found the rather lovely range of Copplestone NOT LOTR AT ALL 10mm fantasy metals. Right ORCS it is then.

(disclaimer, I did have a very small GW orc army back in the mid 90s, and have plenty of LOTR plastics kicking about (what household doesn't, along with a compulsory VHS of The Thing?)

Also, I don't really tend to stray out of 28mm too much, main as I'm too cheap to invest in a new scale of scenery, so all a bit new on the painting. Decided to go for a bit of Isengard theme about the place too, because Y Not?

Thats about all of it for now. I have a bunch of characters left to do and full plans for a cavalry wing, but those can be for another day, maybe when I've actually played a game or two!

HELLCANNON!

Its a hellcannon! That beast of an artillery piece that caused much fun on the table, but I never seemed to see (nor own!) a painted one. Perhaps its just intimidating having that much metal sitting there? I had two of these at one point, as well, so no idea where the other one went.

Mandatory "before" shot:

Set about it with gusto and here we are, one chunky cannon that weighs more than my dog.

Not too bad to really do, once getting going. Using oil washes takes an awful lot of the work out of it and makes things nicely grubby and grimy.

Chaotic Restoration - Chaos Knights

Next up in the restoration of my old chaos army...............the Knights.

Chaos knights, iconic really, aren't they? I certainly always took a unit when this was a regular table force, although being Khorne, they'd often gallop headlong into some absurd position to fight some chaff. Khorne cares not where the blood comes from.............even if its 10 skinks.

So, this is how they looked originally.

Not too shabby on a couple of them - that made a decent base coat, and the horses were in pretty good nick from when I last repainted them around 2008ish, looking at that snow basing. The brown bases? That'll be 1998ish.

Couple of things in here:

1. That metal horse in the middle and its rider. I never built nor assembled that, nor did Roger the Todger who I sourced the items from, Back In The Day. Had a good look at it, thought about what I could do to convert or paint, and decided "nope, this is a duff model and theres a reason its been sitting untouched by three owners for 23ish years". Into the grave he went.

2. The other bare metal and plastics had been stripped by me in the past, so were easy to work with and suss out what should go where and with what. However, I did some repositioning on the 5th edition Knights as, much like the plastic warriors from the time (long binned by me), their heads came out of their chests rather than proudly on their necks, held high and proud, so a minor piece of work to amend that.

3. Banners. I absolutely need to do banners this time around! The thinking used to be "I'll do the army, then do all the banners at the end", but how often did I complete an army? NEVER, thats when. Unlike now, but I did the banners at the same time.

So, after a pair of hours assembling and a couple of hours across two evenings work, here we go with the restored Knights.

Very happy, once again. This lot is going to ruin someones life/village/head/day!

Here they are with Arbaal leading the way...........

Coming along nicely. Next up..............some heavy artillery.

M41.37 Haxan Front: Establish/Repel - 40K Scenario

Haxan Secundus, an unassuming world in the Sclotan Sector, part of the wider defensive border worlds in this area. Mainly arid, although with large expanses of waters and tributaries, meaning growth, scrub and settlements are not uncommonly found.

M41.37 finds locale governances in shock as an Iron Warriors fleet, archivally recorded as "Iron Scorn" Traitoris war grouping suddenly appears in local space and makes rapid planetfall, sending multiple splinter groups to a variety of on world locations.

First to find themselves under rapid assault are the garrison station at Interzone Port Hope. For them, it is a case of holding until relived, with an ace up their sleeve..........Secundus is a recruiting world for the Imperial Fists, and as such, the Astropaths have been able to send for aid, and receive confirmation, prior to commscrambling by the associated Heretek Adepts accompanying the Traitors.

Whether this was unknown to the Iron Warriors, or a deliberate ploy to antagonise and confront their hated brethren, is hard to say.

Table Size: 6 X 4

Forces:

Iron Warrior Assault Cadre - 60 power level

Haxanite Garrison - 20 Guardsmen, 2 Autocannon, Mounted Commissar
Imperial Fist Relief Force - 50 points

Deployment:

Haxanite Garrison - Deploy first. Begin the game deployed around and within the landing site and associated buildings

Iron Warriors - Deploy second on the Southern edge of the table

Imperial Fists - from turn 3, may arrive as a reserve from either the Eastern or Western table edges, chosen by unit and as the general desires.

Objectives:

Haxanite Garrison Primary - Hold until relieved. You must not let the Traitors take this port and establish a beachhead.

Imperial Fists Primary - Engage and Destroy the Iron Warriors, taking minimal casualties.
Imperial Fists Secondary - Hold the Landing Pad, support the garrison.

Iron Warriors Primary - Take and Hold the Port area and buildings. Anything less will be considered a failure

Scenario Rules: Iron Warrior Veteran Combat Squads have advanced and infiltrated the local area, prior to the main force advancing. Any veteran squads with 5 models or less at game beginning may deploy anywhere on the table more than 16" away from the Landing Pad and out of sight of any enemy models.
