Taking a Punt on Orc Boats

Scenario involving a landing? That'll need some boats then, which means a nice little hobby project (within the hobby, but you know what I mean).

Now, I've wanted to make some boats for years, especially since Perry Miniatures put out those lovely Napoleonic British boats years ago, which I won't look at since I'm going to feel old by checking the date of release.

So, how to knock something up quick and cheap? The basic shape is pretty easy - its a landing boat, not a work of art - but what to do about a frame for it?

The answer lay close to hand - the sprue surroundings for bases.

Great. Right shape, readily available, good use of redundant materials, and I know that at least ten models will fit v nicely into this space.

A short amount of cutting and gluing later, and we have the below:

Next, to fill this out with planking and decking. Easy.........

No, this didn't involve running up the nearest Costa and stripping them bare of coffee sticks. For a start, I don't drink coffee, and secondly, I'm an upstanding citizen and paragon of good behaviour in my local area, so such things are beneath me. A £5 order for a couple of hundred did the job.

Quick blast of black primer, followed by a light blast of grey. Drybrush up with some bone.
Texture with AK corrosion effect for some muck n filth.

Unintentionally, this means that one boat looks like someone has dropped a turd in it, which I cannot unsee now I've noticed it.

And there we go. One Orc fleet of landing craft all done in a quick hour or twos work. Nice.

Obvs have to get all the toys out and pose them in the boats, because We Must.

Next stop is to watch the lads get a consumate jobbing when attempting to make land in these.

Perhaps I should have modelled engines on them.........powered by "magic", naturally.

Angry Naked Dwarf Chaps Swinging Their Large Weapons At You

 Now..................thats a title which'll draw some attention.

My Dwarf army was lacking some distinctly Slayery elements, so I was very happy to see Ragnarok run a kickstarter last year with some suitable minis.

Finally pulled it out and got around to painting them, which has met with mixed reaction from my group due to the slightly more au natural look of them.

I think they look great though! If yr going out with death wish, then why dress??

Warmaster Orc Army

Warmaster AKA "the one I never played"  has often been a discussed game between a friend and I/ He invested heavily, but never played (think we've all been there), whereas I fancied it on release, but being young and skint at that time, never really took it up.

SO, we decided to have a go...............or at least collect some armies.

Now, I'm not trawling ebay to look for overpriced blisters or GW stuff, and theres some lovely looking 3D printed stuff out there, but I needed to decide what to go for. Obviously, Chaos or Undead being my main armies meant first thoughts went to them, but I didn't really get bitten by what was there, plus the chaos stuff I did like was in France, and I have no intention of dicking around with Brexit charges and all that fun and games.

This led to "how about a different army for once? i.e. not one I have in 28mm" when I found the rather lovely range of Copplestone NOT LOTR AT ALL 10mm fantasy metals. Right ORCS it is then.

(disclaimer, I did have a very small GW orc army back in the mid 90s, and have plenty of LOTR plastics kicking about (what household doesn't, along with a compulsory VHS of The Thing?)

Also, I don't really tend to stray out of 28mm too much, main as I'm too cheap to invest in a new scale of scenery, so all a bit new on the painting. Decided to go for a bit of Isengard theme about the place too, because Y Not?

Thats about all of it for now. I have a bunch of characters left to do and full plans for a cavalry wing, but those can be for another day, maybe when I've actually played a game or two!

Out of Nowhere - Wood Elves

RANDOM PAINTING ALERT

I have no idea why, but I had the urge to paint some Wood Elves.

Now, I like woods, but I don't particularly like Elves. However, I had an old model kicking about and a treeman, so may as well get on that twitch whilst its there and give them their first ever paintjobs, after many years tolling under Mt Lead.

Taemlein, Wood Elf Scout

Wanted a more feral look, so gave him a cloak of foliage. Its a lovely model, this. Had a minor conversion to the arm, many years ago, where I swapped his owl for a sword. Who throws an owl?

Rotbark, Treeman Double Hard Bastard

These older treeman are still the best ones GW did. Have you seen the absolute state of the current one? Although, that plastic Ent looks like it has potential.
