M41.37 Haxan Front: Establish/Repel - 40K Scenario

Haxan Secundus, an unassuming world in the Sclotan Sector, part of the wider defensive border worlds in this area. Mainly arid, although with large expanses of waters and tributaries, meaning growth, scrub and settlements are not uncommonly found.

M41.37 finds locale governances in shock as an Iron Warriors fleet, archivally recorded as "Iron Scorn" Traitoris war grouping suddenly appears in local space and makes rapid planetfall, sending multiple splinter groups to a variety of on world locations.

First to find themselves under rapid assault are the garrison station at Interzone Port Hope. For them, it is a case of holding until relived, with an ace up their sleeve..........Secundus is a recruiting world for the Imperial Fists, and as such, the Astropaths have been able to send for aid, and receive confirmation, prior to commscrambling by the associated Heretek Adepts accompanying the Traitors.

Whether this was unknown to the Iron Warriors, or a deliberate ploy to antagonise and confront their hated brethren, is hard to say.

Table Size: 6 X 4

Forces:

Iron Warrior Assault Cadre - 60 power level

Haxanite Garrison - 20 Guardsmen, 2 Autocannon, Mounted Commissar
Imperial Fist Relief Force - 50 points

Deployment:

Haxanite Garrison - Deploy first. Begin the game deployed around and within the landing site and associated buildings

Iron Warriors - Deploy second on the Southern edge of the table

Imperial Fists - from turn 3, may arrive as a reserve from either the Eastern or Western table edges, chosen by unit and as the general desires.

Objectives:

Haxanite Garrison Primary - Hold until relieved. You must not let the Traitors take this port and establish a beachhead.

Imperial Fists Primary - Engage and Destroy the Iron Warriors, taking minimal casualties.
Imperial Fists Secondary - Hold the Landing Pad, support the garrison.

Iron Warriors Primary - Take and Hold the Port area and buildings. Anything less will be considered a failure

Scenario Rules: Iron Warrior Veteran Combat Squads have advanced and infiltrated the local area, prior to the main force advancing. Any veteran squads with 5 models or less at game beginning may deploy anywhere on the table more than 16" away from the Landing Pad and out of sight of any enemy models.

IRON SCORN: 40K Iron Warriors Army

Finished my Iron Warriors army for 40K, although I set these in a mid point between HH and 40K (35K?), where they aren't hugely overt on the chaotic elements, but theres some distinct chaos look in there.

Generally enjoyed painting and building these, although I took at least a year gap between the first batch (foot) and second batch (vehicles). Have to say, it was a real nostalgia hit building the plastic HH kit that is akin to the look of ye old RTB01 marines and weapons.

Still, very enioyable making a 40K army again and repurposing some old stuff I've had sitting around for (too) many years unused. Hopefully will give these a run out on the table in a couple of week against the hated Imperial Fists, which'll be my first 40K proper in a long time...........

Some of these have been put onto the blog before, but are here again as part of the main force.

Mechanicus Adept

 Mechanicum Adept Roedelius.

Declared Heretek M41.23 for involvement in the Green Mechanickal kvlt. Subsequently fled and disappeared from view for some years before being identified as allied with Chaotic forces in an engineering capacity.

Last seen: Haxan Front.

Threat Level:  High -+- Terminate with extreme prejudice

What a lovely model. Its one of the Mechanicum range from FW and was a "whats that? I'm buying that!" insta purchase when I saw it, as I've never really owned a decent mechanicus model.

However - what a hassle to build. Truly awful design choices made in some of the elements of this model and the servitors. Some of the arms are supposed to be held two 2mm joins with a coupler inbetween, which is never going to take the strain of the weight. Poorly designed and I have no idea why not just have the arm glue straight to the back?

Accordingly, these models are held together with 50% glue, 50% verbal abuse.

Painted really nicely - I used a weathering ink from AK interactive and white spirit on these as the full shading, rather than just for specific areas as I usually do, to give it a test and it came out very well. Not sure I'd do that across a full army though, but good for characters like this.

Iron Warriors Veterans

Some Vets to add to the Iron Warriors. Had to do these by hand, as I'd usually spray paint the silver one, but army painters notoriously crappy cans gave out on me (seriously, I'm gonna give up on those and find something else. Its the nozzle clogging and propellant failing that does it, when the can is 50% full) and I had to get in with the brush.

Came out............fine. Might redo those teatowels hanging off their waists in a darker colour at some point, but painted is painted!

Thousand Sons

Always liked the Thousand Sons and been tempted by an army of them. Always been a back of the mind project, but I decided to get that starter box, after working out that you could flog Ahriman on ebay for a hefty sum and get the box at discount, so get them relatively cheaply........

Bit of a quick and dirty paint job, as we were supposed to be having a big 40K game. The pox on this land saw that one off though.

Will I get some more? Possibly, but 40K isn't a major game for me any more TBH. I'd rather play Epic, frankly!

Iron Warrior Terminators

More Iron Warriors, Terminators this time. Went for HH era ones and they look BADASS.

Whether they prove to be so on the tabletop........lets see.

Khorne Warlord

Obrist Weil, former Imperial general. Known as a masterful strategist and taking immense pride in his campaigns and their military execution. During the Great War Against Chaos, tasked with a large force during the march North, but fell to Khorne and turned on his allies during the Coachorses campaigns.  Was forced into a fighting retreat when the Chaotic forces were deleted and disappeared into the wastes.

The reappearance of this man in the Far Northern Imperial borders is an ill omen.

My old Khorne general, from back in the days when my chaotic forces rampaged around the club (Clapham Wargamers) and Khorne was mighty pleased with our tally. Quick (20 mins) repaint after sporting his old paint job for many many years.

Cam out pretty damned tasty, although I don't have a chaos army any more. Couldn't let my boy go though.

Heres a pic alongside Edmvnd Khelle:

Thousand Sons Sorcerer

Edmund Khelle, Thousand Sons Exile.

Last Sighting: No Records.
Known Associates: No Records.
Threat Level: No Records.

Decided to make a Thousand Sons warband to use in this game thats coming up.
Well...........was coming up before Father Nurgle turned his attentions to this particular corner of town.

So, had a rough plan for this conversion about a year ago, maybe 18 months, but never really acted on it other than thinking a basic sketch outline of how the conversion would go together.

Got the parts, acted on it, undercoated. That evening, hammered some paint on and there we go, one new Sorcerer. He's a big boy too, thats a 40mm base.

I honestly thought I'd cocked up the painting at the beginning of this one, but I'm rather happy with how it came out, all things considered.

Iron Warriors

The Iron Warriors. "Ungrateful bastards, that Imperium, ungrateful bastards!" *digging a trench* Thats the IW background in a sentence, isn't it? Always been one of my favourite chaos legions, from reading the yellow book back in the day and the descriptions of them in there.

SO, 25 years later, 26 years after my first proper 40K army (my Wolves, a whole post in themselves, that army, and why I'm out of love with them/an example of how literalism ruins things) and my first proper 40K activity (those Death Guard last year were more a painting exercise that had been kicking around since the mid 90s and taken a long time to get out) in 7-8 years and we've got some new Iron Warriors on the scene :)

These are all in the MKIV armour, a nostalgia throwback in itself, and painted pretty quickly. The characters are FW resin ones, as I was feeling flush with the CASH. Rough plan is to expand this warband slightly, but probably not a full army, but lets see how that goes. At least they've all been painted.
