Chaotic Restoration

"So, mate........you remember that chaos stuff I gave you about 7-8 years ago?"

- ".......yeeeaah?"

"you still got it kicking about? You done anything with it?"

- "yeeeaahhh, and no"

"any chance I could claim it back?"

"............    ......  .. .    ...... yeah, I suppose"

AND THUS THE REMAINS OF AN ARMY RETURNS FROM THE WILDS

SO, the above is the remains of my once proud (?) Khorne army, which brutally fought its way through endless club nights, campaigns, skirmishes and the like. The demonic element still resides in the warp (i.e. my storage), but I gave or sold off lots of it many years ago when having a good purge.

Time for a restoration project! Although, in recent years, I've flirted with other gods and colours, I was and remain a red armoured beserker at heart, so its Khorne all the way and my faith is reaffirmed.

Lets see what we have left of this once mighty force (was around 8000 points back in 6th, before they split all the books up in 7th)

Ye mighty Hellcannon of doom. Yes, and yes. I once lent this out to a team member in a big battle and it misfired and blew up on the first shot. Some weeks later, he borrowed it again and it, again, misfired and blew up on the first shot. He shewed insufficient dedication to the cause, clearly.

A selection of knights, which I swapped in the late 90s for a pint of Courage Best.

A chariot and what was intended as warshrine. A spark of inspiration 'on waking one sunday morning around 2010ish saw me rise and build this carriage of heads throughout the day. Will counts as a chariot, I think.

The stragglers from where used to be 50 marauders...........now promoted to chaos warriors, I reckon.

ARBAAL THE SOMETIMES DEFEATED WHEN I HAD A BAD NIGHT.

Yes! I picked this up second hand in a games show in Woolwich around 2005ish, I think. don't blame me for the orange, but do blame me for never repainting it.

Yes, it looks defeated.
Yes, it looks rather pitiful.
Yes, its battered.

BUT

These gentlemen have been through some serious wars with me, and the time is ripe for a return. Oddly nostalgic when I opened the bags and spied what was within, as strong memories here.

So, whats next? Well, I think I'll add a box of current chaos warriors to the force, plus some odds and sods I've had kicking around for a while, so there'll be two units of 15 warriors in there. That should be enough, along with the demons I've kept and can restore at the same time.

The exalted champion of the force - Obrist Weil - can return to his rightful fellows and has been seen in this parish before: https://themosquitoonthetenthfloor.blogspot.com/2020/03/khorne-warlord.html

Think I'll stretch out on the demons slightly, to get some colour variation happening. Decisions on how to base this need to be taken as well, as I rebased my demon legion of Khorne from squares to rounds in Lockdown last year, so I may continue with these (not the cav) and use those movement trays to rank them up.

The Good Book needs reference too:

  1. Splendid...
It almost looks like you have the results of an archaeological dig...

I look forward to seeing your restoration work.

    All the best. Aly

    1. It certainly felt like that when I unwrapped the carrier bag it arrived in. These will be an inbetween project, for breaking up the larger more production line projects with something more open and loose.

  2. Sounds like a nice restoration project,I'm amazed what you could get for a pint of Courage best! I've cleared out a lot of GW stuff but have retained Realms of Chaos, classic!

    1. I've got one - I sold them both a few years back in a massive GW purge, then found StD in a secondhand bookshop.

Not the only time I've picked up an STD in a bookshop, but thats a different story altogether............
