Gettysburg Day 1 - Battle Report

Here we are, Day 1 played and fought........

Table overview...........

Initial Union Deployment, with the dismounted horse mainly holding the field and farmhouses.

Confederacy begins the advance onto the table, but not as rapidly or as organised as they would have hoped!

Skirmishers in the farmhouse lay down pinning fire, whilst readying the ponies for a quick exit......

Whilst on the other side, Rebel Zouaves get an absolute hammering and break for the hills.

Rebs right flank begins to muster in strength and advance at the farmhouse.

"We're looking a bit outnumbered Gentlemen......best begin to retire"

Here they come!

Union right continues to hold, but also begin pulling back.
A lone cannon being left to hold them

Union reinforcements arrive in force and march up the table.

Confederacy reach the farmhouse and overrun it.

Whilst on the Rebel left, they finally begin to make their way to the centre of the field.

Union cavalry dismount and begin firing again.....

Rebel advance through the farm, preparing to face the main Union line that is forming opposite them.

Overview of events at this point.

Union main line forms opposite the farmhouse and in a furious firefight.

Still looking sparse on the Rebel left, with the Union cav holding out firmly.

The main thrust of the engagement, plenty of firin' and hollerin' on either side.

Union cav finally disengage and pull back. That cannons gonna cause some problems through........

Confederacy begin to take the centre of the field and divide the Union

Heres that cannon blowing the Rebs straight back to Dixie.

Fighting across the main lines keeps hammering either side.

Eventually, the Rebel left flank collapses and the Cavalry can begin to move.........

.........but then the Union main line collapses too, so a fighting withdrawal it is!

Final result? A very bloody stalemate. The Confederacy held the table at the end, but were far too battered to take any advantage of the pursuit, as the Union left the table in good order and covered by the cavalry.

Good game. Very hectic, but our (I was in charge of the Union cav) main tactic of fighting and pulling back seemed to work, but both lines broke within a turn of one another, so neither side could push any advantage from it!

Gettysburg - Day 2

Date: 27th July 2019
Place: Chateau Mosquito

Table size: 8X6

Day 2 of Gettysburg, Little Round Top. A game in detail of the actions around the end of line, as the 20th Maine hold out against superior numbers

Objectives

Union

Hold the line. Fall back and the Rebels will sweep along the flank. Make use of the terrain and barricades that can be constructed.

Confederate

Engage with the Union and force them back, opening up a flank attack to overwhelm the Union forces

Deployment

Union

Deployment is across a diagonal line across the mid section of the table, facing Southwest. Terrain is wooded and broken. Basic fortifications have been created to help protect the men.

Considerations - ammo is a concern. You have roughly eight turns worth of shooting before ammo begins to run low. From then, roll a dice after each shot from a regiment, on a roll of a 1, they have enough ammo left for one last round of firing.

Confederate

Deploy across the Southwestern edge of the table.

Order of Battle

Union

CIC (9)

Chamberlain (9)
4 Regiments of Line, 1 Regiment Skirmishers

All Union Line Regiments have the "Pour it on, Boys" rule

Confederate

CIC (8)

Oates (8)
6 Regiments of Line

All Confederate regiments have the Rebel Yell

ACW Union Cavalry Brigade

Been happily bashing out some Union cavalry, both mounted and dismounted, for a series of ACW games happening at the end of the month.

Should really have a third unit of mounted - I've got the box indoors - but I'm getting a bit Unioned out really, so will probably borrow one if required and do them later.
